When Alexia was 5 years old she found a yoga book in her grandfather’s library. She loved playing around with the postures she saw in the photos. She would walk around the house on her knees in lotus posture while her dad scolded, “you’re gonna get hurt.”
17 years later Alexia realized that she couldn’t deny her hunger to learn more about yoga. She left Guatemala, her home country, and moved to Chicago to participate in Moksha’s teacher training program with Daren Friesen. During the program, Kino Macgregor, one of the few certified Ashtanga teachers in the country, spoke to the trainees about practice and teaching. Kino’s inspiration gave Alexia the momentum to immerse herself in the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga practice.
Alexia has found a daily practice to be profoundly transformative, calming, and awakening to self-knowledge. It is these benefits that have given her tremendous faith in yoga and passion for the practice.
In Alexia’s classes you will encounter sequencing based on the Ashtanga series, modified and expanded according to the needs of each student and class environment. As a teacher Alexia inspires students to persevere, with enthusiasm, and discover what gifts their practice holds for them. To find out more about Alexia go to alexiabauer.com.
