| Emily Benz
Emily began her studies of yoga in college where her first yoga teacher was also her rowing coach and the studio was the boathouse. The principles of yoga translated directly into rowing and soon the parallels were clear in all of life. Since moving to Chicago she has studied formally with Tias Little’s Prajna Yoga Training completing the 200-hour certification and continues to seek the wisdom of Gabriel Halpern of the Yoga Circle. Her prenatal specific training was with Linda Spackman in the Iyengar tradition at Yoga Source in Santa Fe, NM.
Emily’s full career and passion is the art of teaching. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in high school biology and environmental science. She draws on her expertise in anatomy, physiology, biology and general science as a strong component of her yoga practice and teaching. She studied teaching and learning at the Harvard Graduate School of Education earning a Masters in Education. Working with diverse young people and adults has given Emily a well-crafted sense of humor, deep patience and humility.
As a teacher, Emily strives to give her students the tools to look inward and to create a deep sense of peace that can be carried with them into their lives outside of the formal practice of yoga breath and postures. She also aids her students in developing an empirical understanding of the science of yoga and to give them a more complete sense of their own anatomy. Emily believes wholeheartedly that the lessons of yoga are most applicable in our everyday lives and that we practice in order to truly live.
