Hatti Figge
When Hatti was 19, her mother enrolled Hatti and herself in a beginning yoga series as a mother-daughter bonding activity. It was her mom's idea, but Hatti was ready. Hatti believes her mom knew intuitively that she was introducing her daughter to something that would be a guide to the major lifestyle shift she'd been seeking. For years prior, Hatti had been studying the basics of many religions and types of Eastern philosophy and she knew instantly that yoga had been the missing link - the thing that wound up connecting all that studying to her heart and body - and then it encouraged her to go further! Yoga!
Several years of self-study and exploring other studios led her to Moksha Yoga Center. For two years she opened the Riverwest studio and studied with Lourdes Paredes three times a week - beginning each day before sunrise. At Moksha, she has had the opportunity to learn from many visiting master teachers including Aadil Palkhivala and Tias Little - and she is glad to be able to study with Dharma Mitra each time she is in New York. In 2003, Hatti completed Daren Friesen's teacher training at MYC.
As Hatti has come more into her own as a practicioner and teacher, she has learned how much she values the teachings and foundation of Iyengar - simultaneously with the influence of Ashtanga and vinyasa which moved so many of her teachers. Hatti offers an asana practice that establishes foundation and knowledge in each pose yet flows. In her teaching she emphasizes the impressions of the basic postures as they are found in more advanced techniques.
A lifetime as an artist has developed in Hatti a keen eye for detail and the ability to make manifest subtle realities through form. She also enjoys drawing parallels between life on and off the mat. Hatti graduated from The School of the Art Institue of Chicago in 2001 and is currently working on co-founding Stay Tuned Natural Foods and Lifestyle Products.
