This workshop will focus mainly on the “gray areas” of the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. For many practitioners who feel that Ashtanga yoga is too hard, too confusing, too complicated and have felt defeated by the practice before they have ever begun. We will use this time to dissect some of the vinyasas, transitions, and postures of primary series that are seemingly impossible to “get” to achieve or even to remember. You will walk away with a new understanding and confidence that qll of these things are possible with a little patience and a lot of practice. A vinyasa practice STRONGLY based in the Ashtanga Primary series will be included. Come prepared to sweat. A background in vinyasa and familiarity with Ashtanga Vinyasa is recommended but not required as long as you come in ready and willing to try.
Daylene Christensen acknowledges many signs pointing her in the direction of yoga. A former athlete, she had not bargained for the type of strength and flexibility asana required, and when starting out claimed that she hated yoga. It frustrated and challenged her. None the less, it sparked something in her, and she continues to rise to the occasion and challenges that everyday practice presents. Daylene is honored to be student of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, practicing in the lineage of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, having completed the Intermediate Series, and learning The Third Series with her teacher, Kino Macgregor. You can expect to work hard in Daylene's classes; she teaches to each student's highest potential. She is a disciplined teacher and will encourage you to challenge yourself physically but to be easy mentally, stating that, "We are often capable of much more than we think ourselves to be." "What we need to remember and focus our energies on as educators, both me and you and anyone else in the position to enlighten minds, is that regardless of your current situation, anything ANYTHING is possible, and though becoming discouraged is almost inevitable, we must keep our eyes on the prize and we must aim high."~ DAYLENE CHRISTENSEN
