TANTRA: WEAVING TOGETHER THE SPIRITUAL AND MATERIAL WORLDS

While classical Yoga teaches the material world (even the body) is an obstruction to spiritual evolution, the Tantric world view is that the material world (including the body) is a manifestation of the divine and we should enjoy it to the fullest. This class will begin with a discussion on the Tantric world view, and end with a physical practice helping us to understand the energy (prana) flowing though the body and how to effeceintly open the channels (nadis) through which it flows. Open to all levels.

Sat, Oct 18, 10:00am - 12:30pm

VINYASA KRAMA

Vinyasa literally translates "to place in a special way". Krama means "stage or step". In this class we will discuss the intelligent sequencing of a Yoga class to get to a certain place with the desired energetic effect. Afterwards we will experience a dynamic practice which will "wake us up" and expand our energy. Perfect for teachers, teacher trainees and practitioners who would like to deepen their practice.

Sat, Oct 18, 2:30 - 5pm

VIPARITA KARANI AND TANTRIC DYANA

In the ancient texts, inversions were called viparita karani, which means active reversal. The ancient Yogi's believed inversions were the "fountain of youth" of asanas. They helped to keep you looking and feeling young. In this class we will practice how to hold long inversions in a safe way. The end of class will be dedicated to practicing and learning the Tantric view on dyana (meditation).

Sun, Oct 19, 10:00am - 12:30pm

ADVANCED PRACTICE: BANDHA AND MUDRA

The most powerful practices in Yoga are not the contortions of the body, they are techniques called bandhas and mudras. When practiced intelligently, they create deep transformation (physically, energetically, mentally and spiritually). In this class we will learn how, when and why to engage the bandhas and end with one of the most transformative practice in Yoga.

Jim Bennitt, began his studies of Yoga, Tantra and Ayurveda in 1997. Before teaching Yoga, he worked on the trading floors of The Chicago Board of Options Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade. In June of 2000, Jim said good bye to the hectic life of the trading floors and began a new life working as a massage therapist. About the same time, he moved to the riverwest neighborhood of Chicago where he stumbled upon Moksha Yoga Center. He was deeply inspired by the teachers at Moksha as well as the master teachers which came through every weekend. Before long, Jim was practicing everyday at Moksha. Since then he has completed Moksha's teacher training with director Daren Friesen, traveled to Kiev, Ukraine for a two month intensive study of Universal Yoga with Andre Lappa and completed eight teacher trainings with various master teachers. Jim presents classes and workshops throughout the U.S. and incorporates asana, pranayama, bandha, mudra, kriya, mantra, pratyahara and dharana techniques rarely taught in yoga classes today.
