2 Day Workshop: Are you curious as to what that word “Mysore” means on a yoga schedule? Do you feel intimidated by Mysore-Style Ashtanga yoga or think the Primary Series is too challenging? Whether you’ve tried Mysore or are curious how to begin, this 2-day workshop will help you explore the series in a way that is fun, safe and approachable.
“Mysore” Style Ashtanga Yoga, is named for Mysore, South India, where the practice originates from, and where, up until his passing last year, the Guru Sri K. Pattabhi Jois lived and taught. Mysore is the most traditional form of Ashtanga yoga, an independent practice where the student advances under the guidance of his or her teacher. Students learn the practice at their own pace, with hands-on adjustments from the teacher.
This style of practice is recommended for students of all levels and ages, just not the lazy! Mysore-style is one of the easiest ways to commit to a daily practice, and you will feel its benefits almost immediately. Once the student has committed the series to memory, the practice itself becomes a moving meditation.
This workshop is for all; whether you’re a beginner or not, you can expect to develop the techniques and skills to begin a daily Ashtanga yoga practice. Come prepared to be inspired while stretching both your mind and body in this relaxed, fun weekend!
Niccola Iovino teaches the Ashtanga Yoga method as taught to her by the late Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore India. Her love of travel had taken her to India to study with Guruji and Lino Miele, as well as workshops in the US and Mexico taught by Tim Miller and Kino MacGregor. You can expect the traditional practice following this lineage in all of her classes. She also expresses the importance of drisitis, bandhas and ujjayi breath as tools for strengthening and focusing both mind and practice. Forever a student, Niccola is excited to share her love of yoga with you! |
