Becky and Fuad Fall Equinox Candlelight Practice With Live Music

The fall equinox marks equal night and day, the days following the equinox become shorter in length until we reach December 21st, the shortest day of the year. This is a season of transition between summer and winter and a time of harvest. There is a divine, ethereal beauty that envelops all of nature during this season.

Traditionally, this is a time to look inward, to take stock, to give thanks (for the harvest) and to prepare for a time of dreaming.

Let us gather together for this candlelight practice as an expression of gratitude for the harvest and to seek, create and manifest BALANCE during this transitional time. Let us harvest peace of mind, joy, prosperity and happiness.

The practice will focus primarily on setting a sankalpa (intention) for the season, on using tapas (heat developed through the practice) to burn away the impurities of the body and mind as well as to burn away the things you would like to release from your life. The asana will provide a grounding foundation in which to achieve balance in the body.

To close the evening, we will bring sound to the breath and raise our voices in call and response chant.

Becky and Fuad met as students in Moksha Yoga Center’s Teacher Training program. In early 2009 they formed the group JivaRain and began performing as a kirtan ensemble and as a live musical accompaniment for yoga classes around Chicago. Becky is a National Board Certified Music teacher in Chicago Public Schools, and Fuad is a multi-instrumentalist and DJ who performs under the name DhakFu. Together, with an exotic array of instruments, they are crafting a new sound. Becky and Fuad were married in the summer of 2010. Together they share the sacred teachings and the love that they have for music with all who cross their path.
