Cassie Rodgers The Pregnant Practice

Modifications for the Expecting Practitioner

Alie McManus

This workshop will help yoga instructors refine and adapt their regular teaching to accommodate a pregnant student.  It is not a “prenatal” training but rather instruction on how to best modify intermediate and advanced yoga work to accommodate expecting mothers when they wish to continue to attend regular classes. Seasoned practitioners who are entering pregnancy are also welcome to gain insight and empower themselves on how to safely practice throughout their pregnancy.

Many yoginis don’t want to give up their current classes to a prenatal yoga one right away if at all. This is an opportunity to confidently and comfortably address those students who want to continue their regular practice.

During our time together we will discuss common concerns and precautions as well as the benefits of various yoga poses and techniques. We will also work with hands on modifications, adjustments and the use of props for contra indicated poses during pregnancy. You will be provided with material as a guide for your future reference. Bring a paper and pen for notes.

In Cassie's Words: In anticipation of becoming pregnant I studied prenatal yoga extensively during my training at Moksha Yoga Center in 2007 making it my thesis topic and specialty. I trained intensively with some of Chicago’s finest prenatal teachers. A highlight of my teaching career came in 2008 while teaching prenatal yoga during my first pregnancy and again in 2010. I enjoyed the experience of confidently supporting seasoned and newer students in this extremely beneficial practice.

After exploring and evolving my own yoga through both pregnancies I am eager to share the knowledge I have gained. I have a profound appreciation for the divine process and strive to bring a strong awareness of the body and its connection to the mind through the simple and beautiful benefits of yoga.
