Mary Wolters has been playfully enjoying a personal yoga practice since 1997. Originally from Rantoul, Illinois, she has studied with top yoga instructors in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. She is committed to the process of learning and continues to take workshops from master teachers.
Mary has been teaching yoga since 2001. Her instruction has evolved from an external, form focused practice to an open system of free-flowing movements. She has found that combining breath synchronized movement of vinyasa yoga with mindful alignment cues to be the foundation of her mind-body work. The deeper and more internal her personal practice has become, the more subtle elements of yoga have begun to arise in her teaching. In advanced classes, Mary encourages practice of meditation, pranayama, bandhas and mudras.
In addition to teaching yoga, Mary is a licensed massage therapist and was nationally-certified in 2005. She has studied a wide range of massage therapy techniques. Mary performs bodywork using oils on a massage table to enhance the relaxation of Swedish massage techniques sometimes including therapeutic deep tissue work. After studying Thai Massage, Mary has incorporating this form of “lazy man’s yoga” into her healing practices. This beautiful expression of partner yoga combines passive stretching, breath work, and acupressure. The effects of a Thai massage include a feeling of relaxed awareness for the giver and receiver.
