Martha Alvarez

With deep roots in the community going back generations, Martha is a Chicago native growing up in Little Italy and attending DePaul University studying early childhood education. Martha has been a natural teacher of yoga with her family starting with her middle 5 year old son, she shared the power of practicing stillness while guiding him through an ocean wave meditation.

Years later, her oldest son suggested Moksha’s teacher training program knowing in her heart one day she would be some kind of teacher/educator. Martha and her eldest son Brandon studied in and completed the 2019 Teacher Training program at Moksha Yoga Center and are both certified yoga teachers (RYT-200). Feeling deep peace after each class, Martha finds the yoga practice releasing, healing, and clearing and desires to share this experience with her students.

Martha enjoys teaching weekly classes including a foundations class at her church with students ranging from 20’s to 70’s, a senior’s class – her oldest student is 91 years old, and detainees at the Cook County jail. Martha also teaches at Moksha Yoga Center and does a mother/son class on Mother’s Day. Martha’s dharma is one of service to family, friends, her students, and community. Martha enjoys assisting and adjusting her students, especially in savasana. After class with Martha, you will feel a deep sense of relaxation, a renewal with {spirit}, and a desire to return to practice.
