Transformative Journey to Sri Lanka
A Tranformative Journey you will never forget
Taking time out to go on a tropical yoga retreat is such a special and beautiful gift that you can give yourself. It’s an opportunity to reconnect to yourself, to deepen your yoga practice, to cleanse with nature ranging from mountains to beaches, to connect with like-minded people and to nourish, restore and reset the body, mind, and soul. Travel halfway around the world to experience the ancient culture of Sri Lanka, experience the historic tea plantations at Amba estate, the beautiful wildlife at the national park and wind down at a Sri Lankan south coast tropical beach paradise 🙂
Daily Yoga Practice
Daren and guest teachers will lead a daily morning 2 hour full-scope yoga practice with a focus on Vinyasa and Astanga teaching principles. The practice includes tools and techniques for all 5 layers of one’s being: asana for the physical, bandhas and breath for the energetic, mantras and visualizations for the mental, meditation for the deeper layer, and ritual and samadhi for the innermost being. Practice is designed in a multi-level format so that its accessible to all skill and practice levels. Yoga practice is followed by a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast. Following breakfast is a 1 hour yoga talk covering various aspects of yoga including koshas, gunas, bhutas, doshas, dharma, karma, tantra, sutras, sages and the third eye. The evening satsang includes the deeper practice of pranayama, mantra and meditation – you’ll sleep like a baby after. This retreat will take you deeper into your outer and inner layers of your body and spirit, whilst you explore the depths of the beautiful island of Sri Lanka.

Meet Your Hosts
Daren Friesen is the founder and director of Moksha Yoga Center in Chicago, where he has dedicated over two decades to sharing the depth of classical yoga with modern practitioners. A lifelong student, Daren has made more than 20 trips to India, immersing himself in traditional study with master teachers to refine his understanding of Āsana, Prāṇāyāma, Bandha, Mudrā, and Kriyā.
Blending the disciplined structure of Astanga Yoga with the fluid intelligence of Vinyāsa, Daren’s teaching emphasizes breath, energetic alignment, and the integration of movement with mindfulness. His approach is deeply rooted in the philosophical traditions of Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras, Hatha Yoga, and Tantric practices, bridging ancient wisdom with contemporary life.
Daren is passionate about making yoga practical, accessible, and transformative. Whether leading teacher trainings, workshops, or immersive retreats, he guides students beyond the physical postures into the subtler dimensions of practice—encouraging self-inquiry, personal evolution, and a direct experience of yoga’s profound potential.
Some of the practices he will offer and wave into the retreat are:
- Astanga & Vinyasa Yoga practices including Tri-Sthana
- Bandha, Mudra & Kriya techniques and tools
- Tantrika & Vijnana Bhairava Tantra meditations
- Patanjali & Classical Yoga themes
- Ayurveda & Sattvic lifestyle
Alexander Conconi is a DePaul university student, dedicated meditator and spiritual practitioner who after bouncing around the teachings of many spiritual teachers and traditions as a means to solve his personal issues and imbalances came across the teachings of Osho, which forever changed his life! For the last year and a half he has been diligently studying and practicing Osho’s teachings and meditations and is excited to share his knowledge and experiences with the group. He carries a bubbly eccentric energy in his meditations and a grounded and thoughtful rhetoric in his verbal teachings which are primarily influenced by his personal experiences with Osho’s teachings.
