The Art of Hands-On Adjustments & Assists
Join us for an informative and experiential workshop designed for yoga teachers, teacher trainees, and dedicated students who wish to deepen their understanding of hands-on adjustments and assists. Rooted in the traditions of Astāṅga Yoga, skillful adjustments can help students experience greater alignment, stability, awareness, and ease within a posture while supporting the development of a safe and effective practice.
This workshop will explore the principles behind effective assisting, including proper body mechanics, communication, observation skills, and the distinction between adjusting, assisting, and supporting. Participants will learn how to assess individual needs, apply appropriate levels of pressure and guidance, and offer adjustments that enhance rather than force a posture.
We will work through a wide range of postures from the standing, seated, and reclining sequences, as well as techniques for supporting students in relaxation and Śavāsana. Emphasis will be placed on maintaining the integrity of the pose, honoring individual differences, and cultivating confidence and sensitivity as an assistant.
Whether you are a teacher looking to refine your hands-on skills or a student curious about the role of adjustments in yoga practice, this workshop will provide practical tools, hands-on experience, and a deeper appreciation for the art of assisting others on the yoga path.
