Astanga Full Primary Series – Yoga Chikitsa

Step into the complete arc of the traditional Primary Series of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, rooted in the lineage of T. Krishnamacharya. Known as Yoga Chikitsa—“yoga therapy”—this sequence systematically purifies and strengthens the body while steadying the mind through breath, gaze, and disciplined flow.

This is a led, full Primary Series class following the classical order from opening mantra to closing sequence. Expect a strong, continuous practice linking movement and breath (vinyasa), with emphasis on:

  • Ujjāyī breathing

  • Bandha integration

  • Traditional vinyasa counts

  • Steady dṛṣṭi (focused gaze)

  • Rhythmic, meditative pacing

The Primary Series works progressively to detoxify, align, and build resilience—particularly through forward folds, hip openers, seated postures, and backbends. The practice culminates in a structured finishing sequence designed to balance the nervous system and seal the effects of the work.

This class is best suited for experienced practitioners who are familiar with most of the sequence and can sustain a 90 minute continuous practice.
