Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtra-s: The Path of Stillness and Practice
Study of Chapters 1 & 2

Step into the heart of yoga’s timeless wisdom through an in-depth exploration of the first two chapters of Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtra-s. In Samādhi Pāda (Chapter 1), we uncover yoga’s ultimate aim—the stilling of the mind’s fluctuations (citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ)—and the luminous state of pure awareness that follows. In Sādhana Pāda (Chapter 2), we turn to the practical path, learning how to dissolve mental afflictions (kleśa-s) through Kriyā Yoga and the Eight Limbs (Aṣṭāṅga Yoga).

This study blends clear explanation of each sūtra with guided discussion, traditional commentary, and experiential practices such as meditation, mantra, and contemplation. Whether you are new to yoga philosophy or deepening a long-term practice, you will gain tools to bring Patañjali’s teachings into daily life—quieting the mind, clarifying the heart, and steadying your steps on the path toward freedom.

Guided by Daren Friesen, the Director and Founder of Moksha Yoga Center.
