Debi Buzil
Debi, a native of Chicago, was introduced to yoga and chanting at a young age by her mother. She saw in her mother's practice that yoga allowed one to explore their full potential and retain a healthy, youthful vitality. In 1987, Debi began practicing with Kim Schwartz of the Temple of Kriya Yoga, learning a blend of Iyengar and classical yoga. In 1995, she completed teacher training with the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in the Bahamas and began teaching that same year. Debi gathers wisdom from a variety of teachers including, the alignment principals of BKS Iyengar, the Jivamukti combination of yoga philosophy and vigorous practice, the elegant style of Rod Stryker, the therapeutic work of Gary Kraftsow, and the teachings of our own Daren Friesen. Debi incorporates ancient teachings into a creative sequence of postures that encourage students to explore their own experience in a safe space through chanting, pranayama, meditation, and vinyasa.
After traveling to India to study sacred chant with Russell Paul, Debi brings all that she has learned to lead Moksha's popular, monthly Kirtan known as "Devi 2000" - a call and response chanting to open and cleanse the heart. She would like to extend her gratitude to Russell as well as Dave Stringer with whom she has toured.
