Melanie moved to Chicago in 2008 from Kansas City in search of a bigger city experience & more opportunities. Traveling for work as a Sales Executive, Melanie desired a way to stay grounded and connected in order to feel “at home” away from home. Growing up playing soccer, she always pictured vigorous activity as the appropriate way to be active and healthy, but wanted to be inspired by more than the usual running and gym workout. Many of her friends were practicing yoga and encouraged her to attend a practice class. She immediately found yoga intriguing and challenging in a way that kept her wanting to know why and how this practice came to be.
Once she moved to Chicago, she began exploring different styles of yoga, including Vinyasa Flow, Ashtanga, and Hatha. In 2014 she began practicing at Moksha and immediately felt a connection to the community and became inspired to become a yoga teacher. Melanie is completing her 200-hour certification through Moksha Yoga Center under the guidance of Daren Friesen. At Moksha, she heard the answers to her questions about why, what and how of all things yoga. She attended as many workshops and sutra lectures as possible. Moksha became a refuge for her whenever she wasn’t traveling.
Her Vinyasa style classes are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Melanie believes yoga can be both playful and a deeper journey inside at the same time. She has experienced the peace, balance and grace that yoga and meditation can bring to everyday life and is excited to share this with her students. In her classes, you can expect a gentle approach, using breath as a guide to fluidly move through postures. Melanie is inspired by the Ashtanga standing poses and uses subtle alignment instruction to experience poses as if they are new in every practice.
